Robin Padilla denies marrying Mariel Rodriguez; She says, "In due time, you will all understand"
Entertainment Live report on Robin Padilla and Mariel Rodriguez’ alleged wedding.
Actor/TV host Robin Padilla has denied getting married twice to TV host Mariel Rodriguez on September 13 in Baguio City, reports PEP.ph. "Mga artista kami at mayroon kaming show na kung ibibigay namin ang mga detalye ay paano naman ang show naming iyon? Basta sa ngayon, ito na muna ang nagaganap na kabanata sa pag-iibigan namin ni Mariel," he said. "Abangan na lamang po natin ang iba pang magaganap, at humihingi kami ng patawad sa mga kalituhan na nangyari." According to PEP.ph, the upcoming show Padilla mentioned is a sitcom starring him and Rodriguez.
("We are artists and we have an upcoming show. We cannot talk about it yet. This is where our love for each other has taken us. Let us just wait and see. We apologize for any confusion we caused.")
For her part, Rodriguez told Entertainment Live, according to ABS-CBNNews.com, "(It’s not a) publicity stunt. In due time, you will all understand."
Padilla’s denial refutes the report of TV Patrol World, which is under the news and current affairs division of ABS-CBN, the TV network that Padilla is part of. The report said the couple first got married through an Igorot ceremony officiated by Jimmy Ong, an Ibaloi native priest. Thinking he was just going to attend a shoot, Ong told TV Patrol World that he asked Padilla if it really was a wedding. He claimed Padilla said, "Oo, kasal talaga (Yes, it’s really a wedding)." Reacting to Padilla’s recent comments, Ong told ABS-CBNNews.com that the action star’s denial shows the couple is ashamed of the Igorot culture. (Padilla’s mother, Eva Cariño, is an Igorot.) Ong also insisted that the ceremony he officiated is sacred and binding.
TV Patrol World video: Robin Padilla’s daughter Queenie is surprised to hear about her father and Mariel Rodriguez’ reported wedding, but says she is happy for them.
Contrary to what the couple claims, Rodriguez’ grandfather Raffy Sazon said she sent him a text message saying she and Padilla already got married in an Igorot ceremony. He told Entertainment Live in a mix of English and Filipino, "She said, ’Lolo, what do you think of an Igorot wedding?’ I replied, ’Well, that’s great. That’s a good idea; just tell me the date.’ It took along time for her to respond. She said, ’Lolo, it’s done.’"
Sazon added in the Entertainment Live report, " I’ve given you (Padilla and Rodriguez) my best wishes. I’m looking forward to that church wedding which you said you’re going to have some time."
Rodriguez’ grandmother May Sazon emotionally told ABS-CBNNews.com that she was shocked to hear reports of the couple’s alleged wedding ceremonies. "We were the last to know. I don’t have anything against Robin. I was just shocked because I had no inkling that they were getting married. But I’m happy for Mariel," she said in a mix of Filipino and English.
Responding to her grandparents’ comments, Rodriguez said, "My Lolo and Lola have always been supportive... They really love Robin."
