Charice sings twice in first episode of Glee’s second season

Legions of fans finally watched international singing sensation Charice Pempengco’s much-hyped debut appearance in the first episode of Glee’s second season on September 22. Pempengco’s character, Filipina exchange student Sunshine Corazon sings a duet with the New Directions’ resident diva Rachel Berry, played by Lea Michele inside the ladies’ room of the William McKinley High School. Sporting pigtails, nerdy wide-rimmed eyeglasses and a Hello Kitty backpack and listening to her iPod, Sunshine Corazon sings the first few lines of Lady Gaga’s "Telephone" while fixing her hair and looking at the mirror. Her voice astounds Rachel Berry, busy posting flyers announcing auditions for the glee club, who then joins her in the duet-slash-sing-off a la the song’s original singers Lady Gaga and Beyonce.

Pempengco sings another song later on, her character’s glee club audition piece "Listen" from the movie Dreamgirls. Wearing a black beret, a colorful retro miniskirt and boots, Sunshine impresses the glee club members, who cheer for her after her first few lines. Needless to say, she gets in. Unfortunately, before New Directions coach Will Schuester (Matthew Morrison) is able to formally welcome her into the group, she is snagged by rival glee club Vocal Adrenaline coach Dustin Goolsby (played by actor Cheyenne Jackson), who offers her perks such as a condo and a green card for her mom. She tells Schuester, "I actually would’ve stayed here but I think Rachel would have made my life a living hell." Pempengco’s fans are hopeful she will be appearing in more Glee episodes.
