Mariel Rodriguez: "I’m so tired of people calling us liars! Can’t they just be happy for us?"
TV host Mariel Rodriguez told The Buzz on September 26 that she and her supposed husband Robin Padilla never lied to the public about their controversial wedding. "Pagod na pagod na ako na tinatawag kaming sinungaling! Hindi ba puwedeng maging masaya na lang? Ito na nga, inilabas na ang totoo, sinungaling pa rin, may butas pa rin," she said, according to PEP.ph. ("I’m so tired of people calling us liars! Can’t they just be happy for us? We’ve already admitted the truth but they still call us liars.")
TV Patrol, a news program under ABS-CBN, which is the network the couple works for, first reported that they were married twice in Baguio on September 13. Jimmy Ong, an Ibaloi native priest, said he conducted the first ceremony locally known as mambunong. Padilla later denied that a wedding took place in Baguio, but later admitted that he married Rodriguez in India on August 19. Rodriguez told The Buzz in a mix of Filipino and English, "I want to make it clear that the early reports about our wedding did not come from us. Maybe the Ibaloi priest did not know we were already married during the ceremony in Baguio."
Rodriguez denied talks branding her as "ungrateful" because she supposedly did not tell her family about the wedding. "Robin and I did not hide our relationship. My family knew about our engagement." She added that she is hurt that some people call her malandi (promiscuous) for getting married so soon to Padilla, whom she has known for about four months. "Robin and I don’t count the days, like some might; we count the moments we spend together. That’s what matters."
She also clarified and denied a few more controversies hounding her involving Willie Revillame, Luis Manzano, Anne Curtis and KC Concepcion. However, she was tight-lipped about her friend, host-actress Toni Gonzaga’s allegations. Reports say Gonzaga supposedly found out that Rodriguez had allegedly been badmouthing her. Rodriguez told The Buzz, "I don’t understand where it’s coming from... I know in my heart and I’m sure that all my friends know that I’ve never betrayed a friend... Toni was like a sister to me. I’m still hurting."
