VIDEO: Derek Ramsey for Rockeoke, relaunching October 4 at Bowler in Salcedo Village
If this video of Derek Ramsey belting out "Ironic" doesn’t make you troop back to Rockeoke, we don’t know what will.
If you’re one of the many who lived out your rockstar fantasies (and loved it!) at Rockeoke or regretted not having mustered enough guts to go up that stage, you’re in luck. The famous sing-your-heart-out-I-don’t-care-if-I-suck songfest returns tonight, October 4 at Bowler Restobar in Salcedo Village.
Rockeoke, which was previously held every Monday night at the old Magnet Cafe in Bonifacio High Street, ran for three years. Every Monday, college kids, yuppies, and rockstar wanna-bes shed all layers of inhibition and dignity for their five minutes (or more) of fame and belted out their favorite rock tunes with a live band in front of friends and strangers.
Says film director and Us-2 Evil-0 vocalist Quark Henares, who started Rockeoke with JC Medina and Gabe Mercado in Mag:Net High Street: "I decided to bring Rockeoke back because everyone was asking for it. People I didn’t know would stop me on the street asking if I could take it somewhere else, conversations with people I just met would end with them asking if I’m thinking of moving Rockeoke to another place. Also, after we left so many pretenders started popping up.
We’ll be having a really novel Safetyoke tie-up with Rock Ed next week, where people can bid to have their friends sing for the benefit of HIV patients," he told SPOT.ph.
The last Rockeoke session, held in May 2010, marked the an end of an era for Rockeoke followers. But it’s back, having found a new home in Bowler Restobar Monday nights. Call ahead to make reservations. Be there at at 8 p.m. to get a table.
Bowler Restobar is at 2B Paseo Parkview Suites, Valero corner Sedeño Street, Salcedo Village, Makati City. Tel. No. 894-3589.
