MTRCB under incoming Chair Grace Poe-Llamanzares to apply more "contextual" approach in reviewing sex in TV shows and movies
Grace Poe-Llamanzares, the incoming chair of the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB), told ANC’s Headstart that the board will apply a more "contextual" approach in reviewing TV shows and movies with sexual content. She also noted the absence of an MTRCB rule prohibiting "gyrating bodies" seen on noontime shows, according to ABS-CBNNews.com. She said GP-rated programs must have no nudity and sexual innuendoes.
Llamanzares said it is not the MTRCB’s job to censor. "We send back materials to the producers with the rating and the recommendations if they want to fit into a certain rating." She said she hopes for a self-regulating movie and TV industry in the future.
Startalk interviews Grace Poe-Llamanzares.
The daughter of veteran actress Susan Roces and the late action star Fernando Poe Jr., Llamanzares was appointed as the new MTRCB head earlier this month. She went through a screening process and was endorsed by Senator Jinggoy Estrada, the Directors Guild of the Philippines and the Actors Guild of the Philippines, according to ABS-CBNNews.com and PEP.ph.
Llamanzares told Headstart that she did not ask for the position from President Noynoy Aquino. She said her main qualification for the post was her interest in movies and television, not her degree in Political Science from Boston College in the US. Prior to that, she studied Development Studies in the University of the Philippines Manila. In an interview with Startalk, she expressed interest in running for public office in 2013.
