Communications Secretary Ricky Carandang orders staff to stop Tweeting after Mislang controversy
Communications Secretary Ricky Carandang has ordered his staff to stop Tweeting until he reviews the government’s social media policy, reports ABS-CBN. This development came after P-noy’s speechwriter Carmen Mislang was reprimanded for her "arrogant and insensitive tweets" about Vietnam while President Aquino was in the country for the Asean Summit. Carandang, a former ABS-CBN journalist, said "he is looking at social media guidelines for government that will be more stringent than the social media policies of private media."
"I haven’t formally reviewed it," Carandang said in the ABS-CBN report. "I just told them, I don’t want anyone tweeting for the next couple of days while I figure out what to do. I don’t want them tweeting for now until I figure out what the rules are."
It’s possible that Mislang will face disciplinary actions, Carandang also said.
"We’re still thinking about that, but right now, it’s resulted in a change in the entire guidelines for social networking. We’ve always encouraged people in the office to actively use social networking. And now, I think maybe now we need to make sure that there are more firm guidelines," he said.
Meanwhile, the Vietnamese government appears to be unaffected by the drama.
