NCCA appoints Boy Abunda ambassador to arts festival

The National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) has named TV host Boy Abunda as the ambassador of the Philippine International Arts Festival in February, reports Manila Bulletin.

"Known for his advocacy in promoting Philippine arts and culture, Mr. Abunda will add color to next year’s month-long celebration," the NCCA said in a statement. "Dubbed as the local show business’ ’King of Talk,’ Mr. Abunda’s ability to clearly communicate ideas makes him the perfect spokesperson to promote Philippine arts and culture to Filipinos around the world."

Abunda’s designation as ambassador, however, does not make him an official government appointee, Deputy Presidential Spokeswoman Abigal Valte told Manila Bulletin. "I didn’t see his name in the list of new government appointees given by the Office of the Executive Secretary. It may be an informal designation by the NCCA similar to that of ambassador of goodwill to promote the arts."

Manila Bulletin reports, "Abunda previously worked as assistant stage manager at the Metropolitan Theater under the guidance of Conching Sunico."
