Catholic Church bans holding of simbang gabi in mall corridors and hallways

Saksi report

The Catholic Church has banned the holding of simbang gabi (Christmas season masses) in the corridors and hallways of malls to ensure the sacredness of the masses, reports Saksi. In a PhilStar.com report, Archbishop Gaudencio Cardinal Rosales said the measure was done to avoid "needlessly exposing the Holy Eucharist to shoppers that are indifferent to the celebration."

However, Rosales said malls may hold simbang gabi if they have their own chapels, provided that the shopping centers "celebrate the Holy Eucharist frequently, with approval from the Catholic Church," reports PhilStar.com.
