Emir, the musical film by Chito Roño, won the Yussef Chahine Award for Best Artistic Contribution at the 34th Cairo International Film Festival in Egypt last week, reports ABS-CBNNews.com. Festival Director Ezzat Abou Ouf presented the trophy and plaque to Roño.
The film follows the story of a young Ilocana who decides to work as a maid in Morocco to help her family. It stars Frencheska Farr, Sid Lucero, Jhong Hilario, Dulce, Kalila Aguilos, Julia Clarete and Beverly Salviejo. The Film Development Council of the Philippines, in cooperation with the Cultural Center of the Philippines, produced the film.
Shown at the Pusan International Film Festival prior to Cairo, Emir will also be screened at foreign film festivals in 2011.
