Church and Malacañang agree to include condom use in family planning leaflets

In a meeting about the responsible parenthood program on Wednesday, the Catholic Church and government officials agreed to include the use of artificial contraceptives like condoms in family planning leaflets to be distributed to the public.

However, reports, the Church insisted that both the advantages and disadvantages of artificial contraceptives be included as well. "Information will state (its health risks and) whether a particular method does not conform to the teachings of the Church," said Msgr. Juanito Figura, the secretary general of the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines.

This latest development doesn’t mean the Church is softening its stand against artificial contraceptives. Figura said, "The Church will never change its stand on morality because morals is constant... It’s a matter of what remains true."
