Pia Cayetano urges PNP to go after "bike-jackers"

Sen. Pia Cayetano has asked the Philippine National Police (PNP) to put a stop to "bike-jackers," or armed robbers who go after bicycle riders, reports ABS-CBNNews.com.

In a press statement, Cayetano said bikers had been victimized on routes and off-road trails in Las Piñas, Parañaque, Muntinlupa, Cavite, Laguna, and Batangas. One of the incidents reported to her office was the robbery of seven mountain bikes taken from about 20 riders on January 15 along the Paliparan-Tubohan trail off Daang Hari Highway.

"Upon learning of these incidents, my office coordinated with the PNP in the locations frequented by the bikers in the south. We asked that they stay alert and respond to any calls from the bikers," Cayetano said, according to ABS-CBNNews.com.

On her Facebook page, Cayetano said bikers may call Las Piñas PNP Chief Romy Sapitula at (0917) 898-333 and the PNP Cavite Operations Hotline at (0910) 745-1008. She also posted her office’s contact details: 552-6683 and pia@senatorpiacayetano.com.
