P-Noy admits "over-concentration" on preparations for 25th anniversary of People Power 1 may have made them overlook 10th anniversary of EDS
President Noynoy Aquino said yesterday that "over-concentration" on the preparations for the 25th anniversary of People Power 1 on February 25 may have made the administration overlook EDSA Dos’ 10th anniversary on January 20, reports GMANews.tv. The 1986 People Power 1 ended the Marcos dictatorship and catapulted Aquino’s mother, the late Corazon Aquino, to presidency.
Communications Secretary Ricky Carandang said the administration did not deliberately ignore the anniversary of EDSA Dos, which saw Aquino’s predecessor Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo replace Joseph "Erap" Estrada as President.
GMANews.tv quoted Carandang: "EDSA Dos and its aftermath is something that our people still feel deeply ambivalent about... Even the previous administration tried to play it down. And they didn't even try to remind the public about it last week. There has not been a word from them."
According to GMANews.tv, the Arroyo administration commemorated EDSA Dos by holding various activities during its nine-year term but started limiting the celebration to a thanksgiving mass since 2004.
