Fare hike: 300 taxis start charging P40 flagdown, P3.50 per 300 meters
Taxi rates increased yesterday, allowing drivers to charge a flagdown fee of P40 and an additional P3.50 for every 300 meters, reports Bandila. However, drivers may only charge the new fee if their cabs have the yellow seal of the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) on the windshield. Drivers are also required to give receipts to passengers or they may be penalized for overcharging.
The taxi recalibration schedule, according to Bandila:
Cabs with plate numbers ending with 1 and 6 - January 24 to February 14
2 and 7 - February 15 to March 11
3 and 8 - March 14 to April 4
4 and 9 - April 5 to May 2
5 and 0 - May 3 to May 25
The LTFRB can only process 300 cabs in one day, according to TV Patrol World. For inquiries and complaints, call the LTFRB hotline 426-2515 and 0921-4487777.
