Vatican to hold AIDS conference in May to explain their stand on condoms
The Vatican will explain its stand on condoms at the international AIDS conference it will host on May 28, reports the AP.
Last year, Pope Benedict XVI said a person that uses condoms to prevent HIV transmission-a male prostitute for instance-might indicate a more moral sexuality. Following the Pope’s statement, the Vatican clarified that he was not justifying the use of condoms in contrast to the Catholic Church’s stand against contraception.
At the conference in May, the Vatican will discuss ways to prevent AIDS and care for those afflicted with the disease. According to the AP, UNAIDS Executive Director Michel Sidibé and prominent AIDS researchers had been invited.
