P-Noy calls Malacañang-backed RP Bill the "middle ground" between Church and RH Bill

President Noynoy Aquino said yesterday that the Palace-drafted Responsible Parenthood (RP) Bill is the "middle ground" between the Reproductive Health (RH) Bill and the Catholic Church’s stand on natural family planning, reports GMA News.

According to Malacañang, the RP Bill is primarily a poverty reduction measure that aims to inform the public about family planning methods, including the artificial method promoted by the RH Bill and the natural method backed by the Church.

"We want to focus on the idea that bringing children into this world is really (the) responsibility of the parents who would know best as to their capabilities to nurture all of these children," Aquino said.

The President added that it is the parents who should determine how many children they want. "Those (governments) who have advocated one child per family are now regretting that they did. Those that did not have a policy also regretted not having a policy... There is no absolute number. We believe that is best left to the discretion of the parents."
