Two Pinay boxers make it to Top 10 world rankings of the International Amateur Boxing Association

Filipino boxers Alice Kate Aparri and Nesthy Petecio have made it to the Top 10 in their respective divisions in the International Amateur Boxing Association (AIBA) women’s world rankings this month, reports ABS-CBN News.

Aparri ranked fourth with 700 points in the 48-kilogram weight category, while Petecio placed seventh with 500 points in the 54-kilogram division. Both are the second highest scoring Asian boxers in their respective divisions. This makes them eligible to compete at the Asian Cup women's boxing tournament in China in April, reports ABS-CBN News. They will also compete for Olympic berths at the 2012 AIBA Women's World Championships in China.

ABS-CBN News quoted Ed Picson, executive director of the Amateur Boxing Association of the Philippines: "We're happy that two of our boxers figured prominently in the world women's boxing rankings for 2011. Hopefully, after the Asian tournament, they will both be No. 1 in Asia."
