In the March 2011 issue of YES! magazine, pop star Sarah Geronimo opens up about the "love triangle" involving herself, Rayver Cruz and Cristine Reyes. The singer-actress also broke her silence on the "first real heartbreak" that she experienced because of her failed relationship with Cruz.
Citing the YES! article, PEP.ph reports that Geronimo and Cruz were together for a year but kept the relationship a secret because Geronimo, 22, was not yet allowed to entertain suitors. During that time, they say they were alone only twice: one time for 30 seconds and the other, for 30 minutes. They only communicated through text messages and Skype sessions, and "exchanged meaningful looks when (they passed) each other (along) the hallways of ABS-CBN," PEP.ph reports.
Cruz admitted that he repeatedly told Geronimo that he was willing to wait for her. ("But we all know that there are some things that are easier said than done. That was my mistake-promising.")
Cruz told YES! ("I had to choose. The girl who I would be able to spend more time with and be really happy with? Or the girl who wanted me to wait for five years, and even if I did wait five years, would there be a guarantee that we would be together then?")
("I told him I knew the time would come when he would meet a girl who can really be with him. And when that time comes, I said I’d be okay with it as long as he is honest with me... That was our agreement. But I felt so devastated.")
("I trusted him so much and I fought for him. In the end, I realized that he might not have loved me. It was like he just threw me away.")
Geronimo’s mother told YES! that she is not totally forbidding her daughter from entertaining suitors-just not at the moment.
("I can see that she’s different compared to her peers who have been exposed (to relationships) and they know how to handle a relationship. My daughter, she’s not like that.")
("A (decent) guy will be willing to wait. He won’t destroy my daughter’s life and dreams. He will even be the one to say, ’I can wait.’")
The 39-page YES! story also includes interviews with Geronimo’s close celebrity friends Sharon Cuneta, Judy Ann Santos and Beth Tamayo, her personal assistant Anna Dasig, and her onscreen partner John Lloyd Cruz, plus Reyes’ side on the issue.
