Danica Magpantay named among top Asian models conquering world catwalks
An article from Agence France Presse (AFP) has named Danica Magpantay, the 18-year-old Pinay who won Ford Supermodel of the World, as one of the Asian models making waves in the international fashion industry.
According to the report published yesterday on Yahoo News, Chinese beauty Liu Wen, the first Asian spokesmodel for Estee Lauder, is "leading a bevy of Asian beauties down the world’s top catwalks and onto global billboards." The report also named model Shu Pei, one of the faces of Maybelline cosmetics, and Magpantay, who was described as one who "promptly marched straight onto the catwalks in New York" shortly after being selected as Supermodel of the World by the prestigious modelling agency in January.
The AFP reports that the rising demand for Asian faces "parallels Asia’s rising clout in the world of luxury goods." According to the report, "Experts say while foreign labels are hoping to connect with new customers across the region-especially in China-by offering them models with a more familiar look, the Asian craze also reflects the globalization of the sector."
