Filipino-American writer and photographer Yen Baet has made it to the finals of the National Geographic Exceptional Experiences Photo Contest, reports GMA News Online.
The only Filipino finalist among the six in the running, England-based Baet told GMA News Online, "It goes without saying that I am proud to represent the country." The grand prize is a nine-day trip for two in Peru.
The Misamis Occidental native shot her entry entitled "Rainy Night in Hallstatt" in Austria two years ago. "Braving the pouring rain with only a small umbrella protecting my camera, I trudged up the hill to where I (took) my shot. There it was, the church sitting quietly (near) the still lake, grazed by wisps of low-lying clouds and embraced in soft mystical light. It looked like a dream," she told the website Fil-Am Ako.
Because only US residents can vote for the winner on National Geographic’s website, Baet is calling for support from Filipino-American nationals, reports GMA News Online. Voting ends March 10.
