Azkals-Myanmar battle ends with 1-1 draw

Saksi report

The match between the Philippine Azkals and Myanmar White Angels ended with a 1-1 draw yesterday at the Thuwana Stadium in Rangoon, reports Inquirer.net. The game was the first of the series in the qualifying phase of the Asian Football Confederation Challenge Cup.

According to Inquirer.net, James Younghusband scored with a penalty kick in the 76th minute but Myanmar’s Khin Maung Lwin evened the score with a free kick in the second minute of injury time.

Azkals Coach Hans Michael Weiss told Inquirer.net, "It was the correct result. We dominated the second half but we were too defensive in the first half."

Among the players Inquirer.net noted for their performances was Neil Etheridge who had a "string of impressive saves in the opening half." Such was the buzz about the goalkeeper that he even made it to Twitter’s Top 10 trending topics during the match.

Inquirer.net reports that yesterday’s match was the third straight draw between the Philippines and Myanmar for the past four years. The other two draws ended with a 0-0 score. The Azkals will face Palestine on March 23 and Bangladesh on March 25.
