Boxing promoter Bob Arum slams Nonito Donaire over decision to move to rival company, claims Rachel Donaire is jealous of Manny Pacquiao
(SPOT.ph) Top Rank’s Bob Arum, the promoter of boxing champ Manny Pacquiao, lashed out against Nonito Donaire Jr. over the boxer’s decision to join Top Rank’s rival company, Oscar De La Hoya’s Golden Boy Promotions, reports PEP.ph.
Citing MPboxing.com, PEP.ph reports that Arum blames Donaire’s wife Rachel for the boxer’s move. He also denied Donaire’s statement last week that he is a "free agent" and said that Donaire still has a contract with Top Rank.
"The lawyers will handle it from now on... I mean, it’s not like I got another Manny Pacquiao," Arum said. "He’s (Donaire) a bantamweight and he wants to go up and I got four fighters who could probably beat him. He’s not a pay-per-view fighter; the Filipinos don’t support him... When he fought (Mexican boxer Fernando) Montiel, it was all Mexicans, very few Filipinos."
Arum added, "He hasn’t connected with the Filipinos and I think it’s largely because of her (Rachel). I think the Filipinos can’t stand her. You know, how dare her? She criticizes the way Jinkee (Pacquiao’s wife) dresses. Is she crazy? She’s all tarted up... Jinkee dresses like a lady."
In an interview with BoxingScene.com, Arum also talked about how Rachel supposedly felt jealous of Manny Pacquiao.
"It’s really just sad that, you know, we did everything that we possibly could for Nonito Donaire," Arum said. "And, the jealousy that she [Rachel] particularly showed to the top fighter in the world, Manny Pacquiao, who happens to be a Filipino like her husband, would have to be what motivated her into doing what she did. If that’s the pattern that she followed, being motivated by jealousy of another person, I feel sorry for her and for Nonito Donaire."
