50 percent of Pinoys want Marcos buried at Libingan ng mga Bayani, says SWS survey
(SPOT.ph) A Social Weather Stations (SWS) survey released on March 30 showed that half of Filipinos want the former President Ferdinand Marcos buried at the Libingan ng mga Bayani, the national heroes’ cemetery, reports Inquirer.net.
According to the report, 1,200 adult respondents nationwide were asked, "In your opinion, is the body of ex-Pres. Marcos worthy to be buried in the Heroes Cemetery or not?’" The survey was conducted from March 4 to 7.
Fifty percent of the respondents said Marcos is "worthy to be buried in the Heroes Cemetery," while 49 percent thought otherwise, and one percent had no answer. The report adds that out of the 50 percent who answered Marcos is worthy, 30 percent thought he should be "buried with official honors," while 20 percent answered "private burial only."
At least 190 out of 283 House representatives have signed House Resolution 204 urging the administration to allow the former president to be buried at the Libingan ng mga Bayani, according to Manila Times. Sorsogon Rep. Salvador Escudero III, Marcos’ Agriculture minister during the Martial Law, authored the resolution.
