Murder suspect Jason Ivler partying in jail?
(SPOT.ph) Photos and video clips that show murder suspect Jason Ivler drinking and entertaining women while inside the Quezon City jail have surfaced on the web, reports ABS CBN News. According to the report, prosecutors believe that Ivler, who is accused of killing Renato Victor Ebarle Jr. in 2009, is receiving special treatment.
"We were very much surprised because that's not ordinary... that an inmate for a high-profile case can enjoy such perks of having a party in his cell," the Ebarle family's lawyer Atty. Amelita Garayblas said.
Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) official Rosendo Dial denied the allegations. "Lahat po ng inmates ay nag-oobserve ng policy, he said in an interview on Thursday on ANC's The Rundown. "Wala pong exemption," (All the inmates observe the same policy. There are no exemptions.)
He added, "Napanood ko po kanina iyung palabas. Wala naman po kaming nakitang nakikipag-inuman siya," he said. (I saw the news report. We didn't see any photos of him drinking.)
Meanwhile, Ivler's mother, Marlene Aguilar-Pollard, defended her son and claimed that partying in detention centers is common practice in the Philippines.
"Kultura na po ng jail iyan sa Pilipinas," she said. "Hari ng selda ang anak ko! ...sikat na sikat siya doon." she said. (It’s jail culture in the Philippines. My son is the king there! ...he's very popular. ) According to the report, Pollard also said that "busloads of women" visit her son regularly.
"Kung ano man ang binebentang treatment doon, kahit sex pa iyon, I’ll pay for it," she added. (Whatever treatment they're selling there, even if it's sex, I'll pay for it.)
According to the report, prosecutors are currently working on having Ivler transferred to the Bicutan detention center at Camp Bagong Diwa.
