No date yet for RP Bill submission to Congress, says Malacañang
(SPOT.ph) Malacañang said yesterday that they cannot give a definite date when the Responsible Parenthood (RP) Bill will be submitted to Congress, reports GMA News Online. Deputy presidential spokesperson Abigail Valte said Health Secretary Enrique Ona, who was assigned to draft the bill, has not given a timetable and date of submission.
The news comes a week after President Noynoy Aquino vowed to push the RP Bill to address poverty in the country, even if it means risking excommunication. The RP Bill, he said earlier, is the "middle ground" between the Reproductive Health Bill and the Catholic Church’s stand on natural family planning.
Valte also addressed calls for a stronger campaign to counter the opposition against the RP Bill. GMA News Online quoted her: "I think iyong sinasabing (the so-called) negative PR, it’s really directed at the Reproductive Health Bill, the consolidated one pending in Congress... Whether a strong PR campaign is required, we answer the ones directed against the President."
