Six planets align for a few weeks this month, rare sight visible from Earth
(SPOT.ph) For a few weeks this month, six planets can be seen aligned in the early morning sky, reports TIME.com. Mercury, Venus, Jupiter and Mars are visible, while Uranus and Neptune can be seen with the use of binoculars.
Citing doomsday sayings, TIME.com reports that the planet alignment will supposedly take place in December 2012, when Nibiru, supposedly a planet discovered by the Sumerians, has been predicted to be heading towards Earth. "But what makes that especially nonsensical-apart from the fact that it’s, you know, nonsense-is that astronomers say no remotely similar alignment will occur next year," wrote TIME.com.
The article cited the Frequently Asked Questions page on the National Aeronautics and Space Administration’s (NASA) website. "Nothing bad will happen to the Earth in 2012. Our planet has been getting along just fine for more than four billion years, and credible scientists worldwide know of no threat associated with 2012."
TIME.com added that the alignment is "as much illusion as fact." The article reads: "In the same way a group of people scattered randomly across the room can appear to be aligned depending on your angle of sight, so too can planets that seem tidily arranged from one point of view turn out to be nothing of the kind when you look at them another way."
