Arnold Schwarzenegger admits he fathered child with household staff member over a decade ago
ABC News report
(SPOT.ph) Former California Governor and actor Arnold Schwarzenegger has admitted that he fathered a child with a former household staff member more than a decade ago, reports The Los Angeles Times. The news comes after he and his wife Maria Shriver announced in a statement last week that they are separating after 25 years of marriage.
In a statement issued to The Los Angeles Times earlier this week, Schwarzenegger, 63, said, "After leaving the governor’s office I told my wife about this event, which occurred over a decade ago... I understand and deserve the feelings of anger and disappointment among my friends and family. There are no excuses and I take full responsibility for the hurt I have caused."
He added, "I have apologized to Maria, my children and my family... I ask that the media respect my wife and children through this extremely difficult time. While I deserve your attention and criticism, my family does not." Schwarzenegger, who left office in January, has four children with Shriver.
According to The Los Angeles Times, the woman in question worked for the family for 20 years and retired in January. She said she received a severance payment and "left on good terms with them." Before the actor issued the statement, the former staff member claimed that the child’s father was her husband at the time. After Schwarzenegger admitted that he fathered her child, the woman declined to comment further to The Los Angeles Times.
The report cited a source who said Schwarzenegger has provided financial support for the child from the start.
Shriver, 55, also issued a statement saying, "This is a painful and heartbreaking time. As a mother, my concern is for the children. I ask for compassion, respect and privacy as my children and I try to rebuild our lives and heal. I will have no further comment."
