Pinoy teens top international Sudoku tourney

(SPOT.ph) Sarah Jane Cua, 16, and James Tan, 14, won first and second place, respectively, in the 18 and under category of the Kejia Pengchen Cup Beijing International Sudoky Tournament held from May 19 to 22, reports Manila Bulletin.

 

Cua, an incoming Management Engineering freshman at Ateneo de Manila University, received a trophy as well as US$500. Meanwhile, an incoming high school junior from Bacolod’s Trinity Christian School, Tan received US$400 and a certificate. Third placer was Luo Tianyi from China, who received US$300 and a certificate.

 

Tan is also the country’s reigning Sudoku grandmaster, according to the article. Both have participated in and won international and national Sudoku competitions and are part of the Philippine team lead by Dr. Simon Chua, president of the Mathematics Trainers Guild Philippines.
