"Bad boy" aura sexier to women, smiling women more attractive to men, study reveals
(SPOT.ph) A Canadian study published online by the American Psychological Association (APA) on Tuesday revealed that women find "happy" men less sexually attractive compared to those with a look of pride, shame, or even, guilt, reports Reuters.
"Women are attracted to guys like James Dean, Edward the vampire-the guys who are flawed, but who know it and are tortured by it," said University of British Columbia psychology professor Jessica Tracy, who directed the study. She added that the findings confirm the notion that "bad boys" are more appealing, explaining that excessive smiling might hint at femininity or desperation. According to Reuters, the study, which was featured in APA’s journal Emotion, only considers initial sexual attractiveness. Researchers do not recommend men adopt a withstanding no-smiling policy.
"When people want a long-term relationship, they take much more into account than sexual attractiveness-how nice a person is is a big thing," said Tracy. "We’re not saying, don’t be a nice guy." The same study also reported that women who smile more are much more attractive to men. Researchers, however, admitted that they couldn’t explain the irony.
