P-Noy is Sen. Miriam Santiago’s best man; former President Fidel V. Ramos not invited to wedding anniversary
(SPOT.ph) President Noynoy Aquino will not only attend Sen. Miriam Santiago’s renewal of vows with husband, former Interior Undersecretary Narciso Santiago Jr., he will also serve as best man, reports ABS-CBN News.
P-Noy will serve as a stand-in for his father, the late Sen. Benigno "Ninoy" Aquino Jr., said the report. Santiago served late President Corazon Aquino, P-Noy’s mother, as Immigration commissioner and Agrarian Reform secretary during her term.
In a GMA News report, Santiago also said she invited the living presidents of the country like former Presidents Joseph "Erap" Estrada and Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, who are both principal sponsors to the wedding. She did not, however, invite former President Fidel Ramos, who defeated her in the 1992 presidential elections. "There is no law that compels me to invite people I actively dislike," Santiago said.
However, Santiago did invite boxing champ and Sarangani Rep. Manny Pacquiao, whom she lashed out on for opposing the Reproductive Health bill. The senator also invited Pacquiao’s wife Jinkee and his mother Dionisia, whom Santiago also had spats with as narrated in earlier reports.
Santiago’s entourage is comprised of: former senator Mar Roxas and his wife broadcaster Korina Sanchez-Roxas, TV5 chair and chief executive officer Manny Pangilinan and Evelyn Singson; Sen. Manny Villar and wife former Las Piñas Rep. Cynthia Villar as secondary sponsors for the candles, veil and cord, respectively. Isabel Ongpin and former Health Secretary Esperanza Cabral are Bible bearers, reports GMA News.
Also invited are former First Lady and current Ilocos Norte Rep. Imelda Marcos, Vice President Jejomar Binay, Santiago’s fellow senators, prima ballerina Lisa Macuja Elizalde, and former beauty queen Gemma Cruz Araneta, among others.
The event is set to take place on June 19 at the Manila Cathedral.
