P-Noy sells controversial Porsche for "security reasons"
(SPOT.ph) President Noynoy Aquino announced yesterday, July 5, that he sold his Porsche due to security reasons, reports ABS-CBN News. Aquino, who reportedly bought the Porsche "third-hand" last January, said that the luxury vehicle was not fit to secure a president.
"It's putting an unnecessary risk on the people who are guarding me. It is too exposed and it is like an advertisement, saying 'Here I am. I am most vulnerable here'," Aquino told reporters. According to Aquino, the Porsche was kept unused inside his garage. "It would deteriorate if it is not used. So it's time to let somebody (else) experience it."
Deputy presidential spokesperson Abigail Valte told DZMM radio that the sale was done privately and that the President had sold it for P4.5 million-the same amount he bought it for.
According to the report, Aquino's controversial purchase of the Porsche contributed to a drop in his ratings early in the year. A Social Weather Stations survey conducted last March showed that 48 percent of Filipinos agreed with the statement: "President Aquino's purchase of an expensive car such as a Porsche, even if through his own money, is not a good example for a President of a country like the Philippines."
