PNP releases CCTV footage of BPI bank robbers, suspects Kuratong Baleleng to be involved
(SPOT.ph) The Philippine National Police (PNP) made public on July 16 the CCTV video of the Bank of the Philippine Islands’ robbery last Friday, July 15, reports ABS-CBN News. Authorities suspect that the Ozamis Group, formerly known as the Kuratong Baleleng Group, was responsible for the heist.
According to an ABS-CBN report, 10 armed men were involved in the break-in: four served as lookouts, three were in getaway vehicles, while only three entered the bank. A robber, who was not wearing a mask, was clearly visible on the video.
A gunfight followed between the suspects and police after the break-in. Two buses were hit by stray armalite bullets but there were no casualties. The suspects, however, escaped using a blue Toyota Revo (XLV 583), a Mitsubishi Adventure, and a red L300 van (USR 735). BPI has already released a statement saying no substantial amount was taken as the robbers took only the cash on the tellers' counters.
The Ozamis Group is also suspected to be behind last May’s heist of a Banco de Oro branch in Cagayan de Oro.
