Amy Winehouse didn’t die from alcohol withdrawal, says celebrity doctor

( Celebrity recovery expert Dr. Drew Pinsky denied claims that "Rehab" singer Amy Winehouse died from alcohol withdrawal, reports Reuters. The "alcohol withdrawal" theory was suggested by Winehouse’s parents.

On July 29, the Celebrity Rehab reality show host explained in a Los Angeles radio program that contrary to what Winehouse’s parents suggested, the singer’s death could not be attributed to withdrawal. "It's wrong, it's not what she died of, I can virtually guarantee you," he said. Explaining symptoms of fatal alcohol withdrawal, he said: "You get really really sick and you seize, and you become encephalopathic and confused, and your heart becomes erratic, and it's not like you just drop dead like her parents are suggesting." Currently, the cause of Winehouse’s death is still "unexplained."

In a separate Reuters article, another rehabilitation expert believes that the 27-year-old artist may have secretly wanted to be part of the 27 Club-a group comprised of famous musicians like Janis Joplin, Kurt Cobain, Jim Morrison, and Jimi Hendrix who died at the age of 27. "Amy was on a dark path and she may have glamorized the idea of being part of that group," said Pax Prentiss, co-founder of the California rehabilitation center.
