MMDA traffic czar Yves Gonzalez relies on new technology to counter traffic problems
(SPOT.ph) Newly appointed Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) "traffic czar" Yves Gonzalez said that the MMDA will use new technology to help ease the metro’s traffic situation, reports ABS-CBN News. In a separate ABS-CBN News article, as traffic czar, Gonzalez is responsible for monitoring vehicular traffic with particular focus on EDSA in the mornings.
Gonzalez, who is known for being the PCOS machine tweeter, as well as a lawyer, former teen star, television host, and band member, told ABS-CBN that technology is part of MMDA’s solution to battle Metro Manila traffic. Apart from an active and updated Twitter account which advises motorists about the traffic situation, the MMDA also installed an online navigator system last month which gives out real-time traffic updates through CCTV cameras. According to the ABS-CBN report, the navigator will soon be available for mobile phones.
"You have volume but if you can minimize the number of times the traffic chokes, then you can get them earlier to their destination," said Gonzalez, adding, "We’ll be able to help (motorists) save money, save time, save on fuel." With these new breakthroughs, the MMDA also aims to address the P277-million deducted from the country’s economy everyday because of congested thoroughfares.
