PH Ironman race boosts tourism in Camarines Sur
(SPOT.ph) Camarines Sur Governor LRay Villafuerte revealed that 1,150 triathletes from the world over attended this year’s Cobra Energy Drink Ironman 70.3m, which was held over the weekend, reports ABS-CBN News. Villafuerte said that the event also brought in a significant number of tourists.
"Kasi kung 1,150 ang nag-participate, times five 'yon eh (If 1,150 partipated, the number of tourists is multiplied by five)," Villafuerte explained. "Usually, kasama 'yong boyfriend niya, asawa niya, kapamilya, trainer, coach." The governor also said that tourists spend about a week in the province. One example is Ironman winner himself, Pete Jacobs, whose Philippine visit doubled as his honeymoon. Earlier reports showed that he and his wife spent a few days before the race at the nearby Caramoan beach.
"Three days before (the event) nandoon na sila. Nagpapahinga sila three days after... 'yong iba bumibisita sa mga beach. So maganda, malaki ang epekto ang mga ganitong event (sa aming probinsya) (They’re already there three days before the event and after the race, they rest for another three days. Some visit the beach. This has had a profound effect on our province)," said Villafuerte. According to The Philippine Star, Camarines Sur has been hosting the Ironman race for three years.
