Transport Strike Alert: MMDA suspends number coding except in Makati and Las Piñas; Classes not suspended

GMA News Online, quoting the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA), reports that the number coding will be lifted [today,] Monday, September 19, due to the transport strike led by the Pinagkaisang Samahan ng Tsuper at Opereytor Nationwide (PISTON). However, the MMDA said that number coding will remain in effect in Makati and Las Piñas.

Based on data from the MMDA, GMA News Research comes up with a "road forecast" for the September 19 transport strike.

 

GMA News Online, quoting the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA), reports that the number coding will be lifted [today,] Monday, September 19, due to the transport strike led by the Pinagkaisang Samahan ng Tsuper at Opereytor Nationwide (PISTON).  However, the MMDA said that number coding will remain in effect in Makati and Las Piñas.

Under the number coding scheme, vehicles with plate numbers ending in 1 and 2 will not be allowed on major thoroughfares in Metro Manila on Monday.

PISTON is on strike to protest "continued high fuel prices." MMDA Chairman Francis Tolentino has warned drivers and operators who resort to violence and intimidation that they "will be dealt with accordingly."

 

In another GMA News Online report, the Department of Education announced that there will be no suspension of classes in the elementary and high school levels today. The DepEd revealed that the MMDA had assured that there are enough personnel to maintain order.
