(SPOT.ph) The Philippine Volcanoes bagged the silver medal in the 2011 Asian Men’s Rugby 7s held in Kota Kinabalu on September 24 and 25, securing them a spot in the 2012 Hong Kong 7s, reports GMANews.tv.
The rugby team bested opponents from Kazakhstan, United Arab Emirates, Malaysia, and China. Their final opponent, Japan, delivered a stunning 46-0 outcome. Japan ranks as the number one rugby country in Asia, according to the report.
Philstar.com reports that rugby sevens is a "shorter, faster, more dynamic version of the traditional game," which will debut in the 2016 Summer Olympics.
