If you’re planning to shop early for the holidays, then your new best friend may be Eastern Samar Representative Ben Evardone.

Interaksyon.com reports that the congressman is asking the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) to release the 13th month pay of government workers before it’s crunch time.

The report quoted Evardone’s text messagge: "The DBM should now release the 13th month pay of government workers as part of the stimulus package to help prop up the economy.  This could serve as a last quarter blast to perk up the economy and enhance consumer spending."

The congressman also added: "The private sector should also do their part by granting now one-half of the 13th month (pay) of their workers. [This would] help cushion the impact of the worsening world economy. You may call this an early Christmas for all employees, but the intention really is to help perk up the economy by boosting spending."

Interaksyon.com noted that government employees "have received the first tranche of their 13th month pay in May, and are expected to get the other half by November."
