ABS-CBNNews.com reports that the US government is keeping an eye on the two sons of former military comptroller Carlos Garcia who were convicted of cash smuggling late last year. The case was filed when they failed to declare to US customs officers that they each has $50,000 when they arrived at the San Francisco International Airport in December 2003.

According to documents from the US Department of Justice, Juan Paulo Garcia, 30, of Pontiac, Michigan and Ian Carl Garcia, 33, of Las Vegas, Nevada are still being monitored. Even after being sentenced to "time served" in November 2010, the two are still required by the US District Court of the Northern District of California to report regularly to a probation officer until November 2012. They are considered to be "on supervised release for a term of two years."

Juan Paulo and Ian Carl, along with their mother Clarita and their youngest brother Timothy Mark, 27, are all still facing criminal charges before the Sandiganbayan as they are named co-defendants of their father in a P303-million plunder case. Timothy Mark drew flak in 2009 because his Park Avenue condo in New York (purchased in his name) was supposedly bought with stolen money by his dad. The report did not confirm if extradition hearings are still ongoing "in the three different US states that have jurisdiction over the Garcias." Clarita and her sons are all US citizens.

Meanwhile, Carlos Garcia is serving a two-year sentence at the National Bilibid Prisons in Muntinlupa.
