ABS-CBNNews.com reports that Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP) Vice President for Administration Augustus F. Cezar was shot dead in an ambush along Pureza St. near Ramon Magsaysay Blvd. in Sta. Mesa around 10:15 p.m. last night.

Police said that Cezar, who was on his way home from the PUP campus, was on board his Toyota Lite Ace van when two gunmen riding a motorcycle got to him. He was shot twice in the head with a .45 caliber firearm.

The report quoted  the university campus’ security chief (not named in the report), who said that Cezar had no known enemies but noted that there was "instability in the leadership of the university." PUP president Dante Guevarra earlier filed charges against Cezar and two other university officials before the Office of the Ombudsman.

The ABS-CBNNews.com report revealed that Cezar, along with Commission on Higher Education and PUP Board of Regents Chairman Patricia Licuana and board secretary of PUP Board of Regents Atty. Estelita Wi Dela Rosa, were charged for violating Article 171 of the Revised Penal Code (falsification by public officer), Article 172 (use of falsified documents), Article 177 (usurpation of authority), Article 183 (perjury), Article 241 (usurpation of judicial functions), and Republic Act 3019 (Anti-graft and Corrupt Practices Act).
