UST med student dies in skydiving mishap

Sun.Star Cebu reports that Loui Raymund Pestaño, 24, a Cebuano medical student of the University of Santo Tomas (UST) in Manila died in Ormoc City at around 2 p.m. last Thursday, October 20, after a skydiving accident.

Sun.Star Cebu reports that Loui Raymund Pestaño, 24, a Cebuano medical student of the University of Santo Tomas (UST) in Manila died in Ormoc City at around 2 p.m. last Thursday, October 20, after a skydiving accident.

 

The report cited Ormoc City Police Office director Nilo Donaire, who revealed that Pestaño was with members of the Cebu Parachute Club who were training at the Ormoc airport. Donaire added that all the other skydivers landed safely.

 

The report also quoted witnesses who said that Pestaño’s parachute did not open after he jumped from a Cessna plane with his instructor identified only as Gary. Pestaño, who landed on a rice paddy meters away from the airport runway, was rushed to the Ormoc Sugarcane Planters Association-Farmers Medical Center. Doctors pronounced him dead.


Pestaño’s remains were brought to Cebu City last Friday, October 22.
