ABS-CBNNews.com reports that presidential spokesman Atty. Edwin Lacierda "lashed out at Chief Justice Renato Corona for saying that President Benigno ’Noynoy’ Aquino III was becoming a dictator after pushing for the chief justice’s impeachment."

In a press briefing on Wednesday, December 14, Lacierda said that Corona "has no right to accuse President Aquino of creating a dictatorship, especially since his family was victimized by the Marcos dictatorship."

Lacierda went on to say that "it would be proper for Corona to take a leave of absence considering that he is trying to rally the entire judiciary behind him in his bid not to be removed from office." He also pointed out that Corona "was no Claudio Teehankee, referring to the Chief Justice that spoke out against the Marcos dictatorship."

Lacierda said, "[Corona] has never spoken against a dictatorship. He is part of the status quo. What we are doing in this administration is try to dismantle the Arroyo apparatus of trying to protect [former President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo] from accountability."
