ABS-CBNNews.com reported that some netizens expressed "disbelief" when the latest issues of fashion magazines Preview and Mega were unveiled. Preview had Charice Pempengo on its cover, looking as glamorous and more beautiful than she has ever looked. Mega, on the other hand, had Jinkee Pacquiao looking sophisticated and gorgeous. For some reason, the "perfect looks" of Pempengco and Pacquiao on the said magazine’s covers prompted an "online mob" to accuse the two magazines of heavily editing the photos on their respective covers.
In the wake of the furor, another ABS-CBNNews.com report revealed that make-up artist Juan Sarte "stressed that the photo of international singing sensation Charice on the cover of the January 2012 issue of Preview magazine was not digitally altered." Sarte was the make-up artist for Pempegco’s cover shoot. He tweeted, "Charice for Preview Behind the Scenes video. Eto ang pruweba. Hindi po yun Photoshop (Here’s the proof. It’s not Photoshop)." He provided a link to the behind-the-scenes footage on YouTube. (See video embedded on this page.)
In a GMA News Online report, Preview’s creative director Vince Uy explained, "We don’t deny that we use Photoshop. That already, I think, in this day and age, it’s already a common practice. But we can say though that we didn’t overuse it. We wanted to give (Charice) something fresh, something people haven’t seen her in." He also pointed out: "It’s actually the hair that really made Charice look different."
