According to Philstar.com, police investigators are reiterating their initial report that Chinese national Gong Shu Yang, 26, committed suicide as he was being transported to Manila City Hall to undergo inquest. He was in a car with his police escorts, SPO1 Charles John Duran, PO3 Alonzo Layugan, and PO2 Jason Ibaco. The report revealed that "Gong grabbed the service firearm of one of his escorts when the latter bent over to pick up some documents." He then put the gun under his chin and fired.
Â
Gong was arrested last week for murdering his girlfriend, Zhao Chun Lan, 24, along Roxas Boulevard. The killing was caught on video by a surveillance camera installed in the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas complex. Gong ran over and repeatedly stabbed Zhao.
Â
Manila Police District homicide section chief Senior Inspector Joselito de Ocamp told The Philippine Star: "It's suicide. He really committed suicide. He grabbed the policeman's gun. There is no other explanation. Some malicious minds just think otherwise." De Ocampo added that they are still waiting for the Philippine National Police headquarters to release the official results of the paraffin test done on Gong and his police escorts.
