MMDA tags 4 golf courses as "earthquake evacuation sites"

Manila Standard Today reports that the Metro Manila Development Authority has identified the following golf courses as "evacuation centers" in case a powerful earthquake hits the metro: the Villamor Golf Club in Villamor Air Base in Pasay City; Intramuros in Manila; the Veterans Golf Club inside the Veterans Memorial Medical Center in Quezon City; and the Wack-Wack Golf and Country Club in Mandaluyong City.

According to the report, the management of the golf courses have agreed to let people use their facilities if an earthquake hits. In such cases, the golf courses "would also function as centers for relief distribution, trauma centers, mobile hospitals, training centers, and command posts of the Metro Manila Disaster Reduction Coordinating Council (headed by the MMDA)."

The report quoted MMDA chairman Francis Tolentino, who said that they would "adopt color codes for quick identification of what golf courses Metro Manila's 17 local government units must seek for evacuation in times of calamities."
