PH’s Rice Terraces is no longer "endangered," says UNESCO World Heritage Committee

InterAksyon.com reports that the "Rice Terraces of Philippine Cordilleras has been removed from the ’List of World Heritage in Danger.’" The list was crafted by the World Heritage Committee of the the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). The Rice Terraces were placed on the World Heritage List in 1995 and then declared "endangered" in 2001 "because of threats which required the development of better management and planning."

 

The report quoted the World Heritage Committee’s statement, whic read: "The Philippines sought the listing as a way to raise national and international support and cooperation for the preservation of the remote rice fields."
