Another potential Maguindanao massacre witness killed; Police say 6 others have already been killed in connection with case

According to the report, the slain man "was a distant relative of former Governor Andal Ampatuan Sr., who is among the 196 people accused in the massacre that happened in November 23, 2009." The report also pointed out that "there were 57 people lilled in the massacre-including the wife of the current Maguindanao governor,  Esmael Mangudadatu."

 

The report quoted Nena Santos, a counsel of the Mangudadatus, explained that Alijol "was not immediately identified because he was then named by investigators as ’Menjie Mangulamas Ubpon.’"

 

The Inquirer report noted that aside from Alijol, "six people-three witnesses and three relatives of other witnesses-have been killed [allegedly] in connection with the trial of the politically influential Ampatuan family." Further investigation revealed that Alijol was brought to the hospital after he was shot, but he eventually succumbed to his wounds.
