Malacañang denies pressuring Sen. Franklin Drilon to turn down Chief Justice nomination; Drilon quips, "It’s more fun in the Senate"

ABS-CBNNews.com reports that "Malacañang has denied putting pressure on Sen. Franklin Drilon to turn down his nomination for the position of Chief Justice." According to the report deputy presidential spokesperson Abigail Valte also dismissed rumors that "Malacañang is out to control the next Chief Justice in order to overturn the Supreme Court’s decision on the distribution of Hacienda Luisita, and to get a favorable decision in the ongoing poll protest of defeated vice-presidential candidate Mar Roxas."

 

The report noted that when asked about declining the nomination, Drilon had quipped, "It’s more fun in the Senate. I feel I will be of better service to the country."
