ABS-CBNNews.com reports that a suspected swindler named Manolito Gavas was arrested in Davao City on Monday, July 9. According to the report, Gavas had scammed informal settlers of their money by claiming to part of a foundation that can grant lots in the city for just ₱250. Aside from that, Gavas also told his victims that "the foundation owns the entire Philippines, even presenting a fake Supreme Court (SC) decision on the matter."
The report went on to reveal that Rodrigo Duterte, the city's former mayor and its current vice mayor, met Gavas at the jail before dawn on Tuesday, July 10. According to the report, Duterte, who was enraged by Gavas’ scam, forced the suspect to eat the fake land titles that the latter presented to the informal settlers. Duterte is the father of Davao City’s current mayor Sara Duterte, who is famous for punching a court sheriff. Clearly, as they say, the apple does not fall far from the tree.
