Christine O. Avendaño and Germelina Lacorte of the Philippine Daily Inquirer report that Davao City vice mayor Rodrigo Duterte has chosen not to issue any statements as Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Jesse Robredo has formed a fact-finding body to look into alleged complaints against him, particularly the July 9 incident where he reportedly made a swindler named Manolito Gavas. The Commission on Human Rights had slammed Duterte for the allegation.
The Inquirer report quoted Duterte, who said, "There's a time for everything. Now is my time to remain silent." The report also noted: "Duterte told reporters it was chewing gum and not a piece of paper that Gavas was chewing. Duterte said he would give his side at the proper forum."
