InterAksyon.com’s Jaime Sinapit reports that Colonel Marian C. Aleido recently assumed her position as head of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Office of the Judge Advocate General. She is the first female officer to be appointed to head the office "which is tasked is to prosecute cases involving officers and soldiers and act as legal adviser to the AFP chief of staff and secretary of national defense."

The report added that Aleido was also "the first female to be commissioned and called to active duty as a military lawyer in 1984." The report quoted Aleido, who said, "I am thankful, overwhelmed and overjoyed. Not in my wildest imaginations did I ever think that I would be able to achieve this position especially that the JAGS (Judge Advocate General’s Service) used to be, and still is, a male-dominated unit in the AFP."
